Cultural

Balmoral School is a place that encourages all students to share who they are and what their culture means to them. We pride ourselves on getting to know the student deeply, and using this to create a safe, thoughtful and engaging space for all cultures. Our school's Inquiry model allows us the flexibility for teachers to truly build off that understanding and incorporate it into learning experiences.

On another level we have plenty of other experiences that celebrate culture; language evenings, Pasifika performance groups, kapa haka, Bollywood dance groups and cultural non uniform days to name a few.

In 2023 many of the staff will attend a talk from Professor Russell Bishop, a leader in the field of Maori and Pasifika education. They will learn about his longitudinal research into highly effective strategies for Maori and Pasifika, and are looking forward to putting them into practice.

Over the last 3 years, we have been trialling a tool that specifically works with Pasifika students to amplify their voice and challenges teachers to make positive changes to their practice. We rolled this out across the school in 2022 and the results have been promising.
